  • Allegiant Air? This was the first time I think I'd even heard of this airline. But they had a direct flight from Rapid City, and the price was right. The plane was 20 minutes late, which I attribute to the additional drag of the team members holding their arms outside the plane windows.
  • Kelly, the Professional Driver. Kelly drove the bus from Mesa to Tucson.

  • The bags have finally been offloaded from the plane, and it's time to head for the bus.
  • Kelly and helper heft the overstuffed and over-sized bags into the back of the bus. From here they'll suffer through a 90 minute drive to their hotel in Tucson, where they'll rest for their first game on Thursday. You know I'll be there to get some photos. Good night...
  • I began my journey in search of the elusive North Dakota Blue Hawk. Rumor had it that a number of them would appear in Phoenix a little after 8:00 pm Wednesday evening. As wiley as Elmer Fudd's "Wascally Wabbit," I attempted to sneak up on them at Phoenix's Sky Harbour Airport. Of course the elusive Blue Hawk is clever, and did not choose such an obvious arrival point. The Blue Hawk (actually an entire flock of Blue Hawks) had chosen to fly into the smaller Phoenix/Mesa Gateway Airport. At least this airport had no parking charges, and I could park just across the street from the terminal.
